On May 1, the Huntsville High School (HHS) Music Department recognizes Music Monday by inviting students from Riverside Public School and Huntsville Public School for an afternoon of music-making and performances.
The annual event was founded in 1992 by The Coalition for Music Education to raise awareness and understanding of the role that music education plays in Canadian culture, and to promote the benefits that music brings to young people.
The afternoon saw students in Grades 2 to 12 engage in vocal warm-ups and a group sing-a-long, followed by group performances from different school groups.
“The elementary school students were so excited to come to the high school and perform for the older students,” said HHS music teacher, Nicole Taylor. “They left the event inspired by the music they heard from the older students. Our high school students enjoyed the opportunity to share their talent and see the next generation of HHS students.”
This was the first year the school hosted such an event, but they plan on hosting an event each year, inviting more schools to participate!
