Year End Letter/Report Card Pickup Due to Postal Strike

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Another school year has come and gone, culminating with our graduation ceremony on June 29th. Congratulations to the graduating cohort. We wish you all the best in the future and hope you continue to make a difference after leaving Fenelon Falls Secondary School.

This past year was hampered by job action by both CUPE and OSSTF employees. I’m happy to share with you that the job action is now over with both unions, and the 2016-2017 school year will run with all programs in full swing, including extra-curricular activities.

Unfortunately, a looming postal strike is causing a disruption to our ability to distribute report cards. Report cards will be available for pickup from July 5th to July 22nd in the school office between 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

I’m hoping that you found the use of our online school calendar at useful this year. We are moving to share as much information as possible this way, primarily because it can be updated in real time, allowing revisions to be made without having to resend paperwork or letters home. The school’s Twitter feed @FenelonFallsSS is also a great window allowing you to see and read about the events that are happening in the school, containing posts shared by staff and students.

As you look at your son or daughter’s report card, I’d like you to look at the attendance numbers. There is a strong correlation between diligent attendance and high achievement. Next year we are hoping that you can help us reduce those absences, which I know will result in improved student achievement. Please do your best to call or email a response to the school promptly to explain any absences if you do get a call from the Synervoice system. Unexcused absences will result in recorded truancies, and involve school administration. That assistance will be greatly appreciated next year, as we rely on your phone calls to keep accurate attendance records.

Every year we spend a large sum of money to replace lost textbooks. Please take a look around your residence and if you find any books, drop them off at the school at the beginning of school year- the office will be reopening on August 29th and classes will resume on September 6th.

Lastly, Elizabeth Alton will be taking over a vice-principal’s role, replacing Nathan Stephenson. Elizabeth will be overseeing the grade ten and twelve students for the upcoming school year. I hope your son or daughter enjoyed their experience this year at Fenelon Falls Secondary School. Have a great summer.
