Dear Parents, Guardians and Students of Fenelon Falls Secondary School,
Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Fenelon Falls Secondary School. I am very pleased to be welcoming our students and parents back for another exciting year. There are many changes in our school this year that I am happy to share with you. Over the summer we had extensive renovations to our cafeteria, hallways and tech shops. In addition, along with another secondary school, we had a new security system installed which included 32 cameras both inside and outside of the building. While some work is still in progress, the students have been enjoying the coffee-house feel of our cafeteria space.
This week, our vice principals met with each grade group to review the expectations of students to ensure a successful, respectful and safe school environment. The expectations are clear and straightforward. Students are asked to attend regularly, complete and submit their work on time, and to be respectful of themselves and others at all times. The Code of Conduct is posted online at ffs.tldsb.on.ca and printed copies are available in the office for pick-up. Please review this with your son or daughter so they are clearly aware of the expectations at the school.
We have many exciting extracurricular opportunities for our students this year. Student councils, sports teams, special interest clubs, intramurals, bands, dances and school-wide activities give options for all students to be involved. All of these opportunities are made possible through the dedication of school staff and community volunteers and we thank them for their time! We encourage all students to get involved, make memories and continue to build our strong school culture and Falcon pride.
Upcoming September school events include:
- Falcon Leadership Team - Students interested in developing leadership and teamwork skills are invited to submit an application to be selected as part of the Falcon Leadership Team. We are selecting a large group of students to be involved and want equal representation from all four grades. Our first event will be a day-long retreat at Camp Wanikita on September 30.
- Before You Hit Send – The Kawartha Lakes OPP will be hosting information sessions for all students around the issues of inappropriate texting, often referred to as “sexting”. Classes will attend a session during the week of September 23- 30.
- Grade 9 Parent Open House – All parents of Grade 9 students are invited to attend an Open House on September 23 from 6 pm to 7pm. Parents will get the opportunity to follow their student’s schedule, meet teachers and tour the school. Please mark it on your calendars!
- Parent Council Meeting – Our first meeting and elections will occur on September 23 following the Grade 9 Open House. The Council will be meeting in the library at 7 pm. It is not a fundraising group, but does advise the school on many different issues and is a good opportunity to hear about the many happenings at Fenelon Falls Secondary. All parents are invited to attend and no commitment to the council executive is required.
I look forward to a great year of excitement and success at Fenelon Falls Secondary School! I invite parents and guardians to contact me or any of our administration or teaching staff at any time with any questions or concerns. We are always ready and willing to help.
All my best as we enter the 2013-14 school year!
