 Dear Parent/Guardian:

Another school year has come and gone, culminating with our graduation ceremony on June 29th. Congratulations to the graduating cohort. We wish you all the best in the future and hope you continue to make a difference after leaving Fenelon Falls Secondary School.

I’m hoping that you found the use of our online school calendar at http://ffs.tldsb.on.ca/ useful this year. We are moving to share as much information as possible this way, primarily because it can be updated in real time, allowing revisions to be made without having to resend paperwork or letters home. The school’s Twitter feed @FenelonFallsSS is also a great window allowing you to see and read about the events that are happening in the school, containing posts shared by staff and students.

The school will be seeing some renovations over the summer, including two new student washrooms on the main floor, and a new gym floor.

As you look at your son or daughter’s report card, I’d like you to look at the learning skills and attendance numbers as well as the marks and comments. There is a strong correlation between diligent attendance, good learning skills and high achievement. Next year we are hoping that you can help us reduce student absences, which I know will result in improved student achievement. Please do your best to call or email a response to the school promptly to explain any absences if you do get a call from the Synervoice system. Unexcused absences will result in recorded truancies, and involve school administration. That assistance will be greatly appreciated next year, as we rely on your phone calls to keep accurate attendance records.

Every year we spend a large sum of money to replace lost textbooks. A notice will be included in the report card envelope if your son or daughter has an outstanding textbook or library book. Please take a look around your residence and if you find any books, drop them off at the school at the beginning of school year- the office will be reopening on August 28th and classes will resume on September 5th. Report cards and the results from the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (for grade 10 and grade 11 writers) will be mailed out this week.

I hope your son or daughter enjoyed their experience this year at Fenelon Falls Secondary School. Have a great summer.

 Sincerely,

Ray Este
