FFSS Receives Premier’s Award for Safe and Accepting Schools

The Ontario Government has recognized 10 Safe and Accepting Schools teams across the province through the Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools. These awards are given out annually to recognize teams of students, educators, and parents for creativity and leadership in creating positive school environments, and supporting student achievement and well-being.

Fenelon Falls Secondary School is one of the recipients for the 2015-16 Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools.

“I’m very proud of the work people do here everyday to make students feel cared for and valued,” says Ray Este, Principal at FFSS. “Students may not remember how well they did in this course or that course, but they will always remember how well they were treated. As a staff, we are continually reflecting on our practices, with student success and wellness being at the forefront.”

Every school in Ontario is required to have a Safe and Accepting Schools Team.

“Congratulations to all the recipients of the Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools for creating positive and inclusive environments,” says Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Education for the Ontario Government. “We know how important safe and accepting environments are in helping students become confident, capable, and caring citizens.”
